Deliveries

Yesterday morning we got our first REAL order into the bakery.  All of our paper products and non-perishables came in and are getting put away today.  (also, I've been stamping our cups by hand to save money --like $5k--... which is AWESOME and fun... oh, and repetitious and killing me).

Anyway, I'm about 1300 cups in, and about 1300 to go but I need to go get a new stamp pad.  Who knew! Stamp pads don't last forever!

It really doesn't take that long.  And I've found a system or two, but it's still time consuming.

Of course, when you're stamping cups you have to pay attention to what you're doing.  You can't really watch a movie (which I discovered while trying to stamp and simultaneously watch american teen.) Combining the two tends to cause one of two things to happen.  1: you just plain ol' stop stamping.  2: you don't actually stamp in appropriate areas or in appropriate directions.

And so I'm left to sit, listen to music, audio books, and coffee break spanish while I stamp, patpatpat, stamp, patpatpat, stamp (repeat 1300 times.)  Of course, most of what I'm doing isn't listening or learning so much as thinking about things that don't necessarily matter.  Like, what I'm gonna do while keith's out of town for a week, when my bakery will FINALLY OPEN and what I need to do to get it open.  Which just causes me to get more and more anxious.  God damnit it's FEBRUARY.  And I wanted to be open in NOVEMBER.  I'm going crazy.

So what am I doing?  Writing a blog. about being anxious. because I'm not working.  And what am I doing right now?  Not working on working.  Cause I'm writing a blog.

This is a terribly cyclical problem.  I can't wait until I don't write posts about this anymore.

Hello.  My name is Corie, and I'm an easily distracted workaholic.

Between 1 and 5.

Yesterday I spent several hours waiting for the Internet/phone company to come hook my cafe up to the rest of the interworld.  And in the mean time, I had a handful of things to take care of, most of which were done and forgotten within 30 minutes.  So there I sat, twiddling my thumbs while my electrician drilled holes to run power to our beautiful espresso machine.

I actually started this particular entry, and an embarrassing number of others to keep in mind for the future when I'm lacking on inspiration on the sticky notes application on my computer.  I guess I could feel that the day would end in a story.

At first my reaction was complacent.  Not too worried about it.  But as the day crept (amazing how time DOESN'T fly when you're NOT having fun!) by I definitely got a little agitated.  When the clock finally got to 5, and I hadn't heard from the communications company, I gave them a ring and they assured me that the tech would arrive shortly.  And to please continue waiting, the tech will call when he's on his way.

Continue waiting.  Seriously?! I thought I was starting to hallucinate from not having eaten since 11:45.  Yeah, I'll continue waiting.  If you install my things for free.  Yes, you're not hallucinating.  Free.  I've been kept waiting without a call for 4.5 hours.  He assured me it would be taken care of and that the tech would call before arriving.

He didn't call.

When he showed up, I was just a hair shy of livid.

Maybe you could have called? I was so worried you wouldn't come over! What? You didn't want me to get the wrong idea? Didn't want things to start moving too fast?  Well.  It's too late for that, I've already wasted millions of moments waiting on you.

We are SO over.

Wait. I think something weird just happened.

Anyway.  Once he got started, he realized it was a bigger job than he'd planned.  He took 2 hours from his 5:45 arrival to finish the task.  And then everything was fine.  Except for the fact that it was 7:45 and he wanted my sympathy because he would be driving back to Atlanta.

Yeah. It's a 2-hour drive.  Yeah. You chose to work 2 hours from your home.  Keep it on the inside.  I've been here waiting on you for 6 hours and 45 minutes and I haven't eaten.  (that last part is all on me.  Totally should have brought snacks.)

I told myself I wasn't gonna write about this.  Cause let's be honest.  Everyone has a wretched story about utility installation.  Everyone has to deal with it.  I know I'm not special, and that after this moment, I probably wont ever think about my internet again except when the bill is due.

On a happier note I'm making valentines day pompoms for my store out of tissue paper today while I'm filling in at my neighbor's clothing store.  Look out Valentines day, Ike & Jane is comin' at cha.

Catch up.

I know, I know.
3posts 2hours.  It's a little excessive.
BUT.  I'm simply trying to catch "you" (this would imply outside involvement.  However, to my knowledge there is none. Sooo... do with that what you will, straggler.) up on what's going down with me.

About 2 months ago, I quit my job.  Yeah. That's right.  Economic downturn, everyone's getting laid off, and what do I do? I volunteer to leave my job. My full-time, enjoyable, benefits paid, 401-k having job.  Sounds crazy, Yes.   I do have a plan, a purpose for this seemingly RIDICULOUS action, I'm opening my own business.  WAIT! SHIT! It just got crazier.

Way to go 2008, you made me look like a fool!

Regardless, I'm starting my own small-town wholesale/retail bakery right between a soon-to-be medical college and a now-in-action hospital (I can tell it's in action because there are patients in wheelchairs smoking outside and ambulances zooming by every few hours).

I'm hoping that between the amazing support we're getting from the community and the unbelievable number of employees a 7-story hospital MUST (god I hope so) have that we'll be a hit.

Well, that and we're awesome.

I'm going to go invent chicken salad.
Ok, GO!
